A 17-year-old is facing multiple charges after he led Wickliffe police on a chase and then crashed a stolen car into a pole.

The crash happened around 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday near North Marginal and Babbitt roads.

According to the police report, the teen blew past an officer on State Route 2 at a high rate of speed in a tan Toyota that had been reported stolen out of Willoughby.

The officer gave chase but lost sight of the car less than a minute later when the driver exited the highway near East 260th Street.

The chase ended when the teen crashed into a pole.

Four of the car's occupants — including the 17-year-old driver — were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. A fifth person was not injured in the crash.

An infant who was inside the car was also taken to the hospital for evaluation. The child was not harmed in the crash, police said.

After the teen was released from the hospital he was taken into custody and sent to the Lake County Detention Center.

Wickliffe police recommended charges of fleeing and eluding, child endangering, and receiving stolen property to the city prosecutor's office.
