WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — Willoughby police are investigating after a car was struck by a train.
The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. Saturday on Erie Road at the railroad tracks.
When police arrived, they found a 2020 Volkswagen SUV with heavy rear-end damage.
Police said a female driver and male passengers were inside of the car.
The driver and passenger were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
According to police, several witnesses said the gates were down with red flashing lights and they could hear the train from a distance. The Volkswagen was the fourth or fifth car to go around the gates and was the only vehicle struck.
