EASTLAKE, Ohio — The Willoughby-Eastlake School District has closed all of the buildings in the district until further notice as several students and staff members were directly exposed to COVID-19.

Over the weekend the district learned of COVID-19 exposures at Longfellow Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School. Students and staff members in multiple classrooms were directly exposed.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 12, all students in the Willoughby-Eastlake School District will switch to remote learning.

Willoughby-Eastlake Schools said that it has worked closely with the Lake County General Health District and identified all of the close contacts of the positive COVID-19 tests.

Staff members and family of students that were identified as close contacts will be contacted by the health department within the next two days, the district said.

All extracurricular activities have been suspended until reopening guidelines are reviewed for each activity, according to the district.

Families within the district will receive information from their building’s principal about the transition to remote learning. Lunch distribution will continue during the remote learning transition, the district said.
