MENTOR, Ohio — Mentor police are investigating an armed robbery and an attempted carjacking that happened at two separate gas stations, but are believed to be related, police said.

At about 8:30 p.m., Thursday, a woman was pumping gas at the Shell Gas Station, 7408 Mentor Ave., when a man approached her and attempted to get inside her vehicle. Because it was locked, the man left the scene in a black or dark purple Cadillac, possibly a STS or CTS, with a burnt out passenger side tail light.

Approximately 5 to 10 minutes later, a man was pumping gas at Speedway Gas Station, 7745 Reynolds Road, when a person wearing a mask approached him. The alleged robber brandished a handgun and demanded the victim's vehicle, a gray 2013 Ford Edge.

The man gave the alleged robber his keys who left the area.

Police said it's not yet known if the alleged robber is the same person at both gas stations, but they believe that both crimes are related.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Mentor Police Department at 440-255-1234.
