WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — A 24-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly jumped into a fight between two women at a Denny’s in Willoughby, punching and stomping one of the women before stealing her cell phone and shoes.

At about 1:50 a.m. Monday, Willoughby police were called the Denny’s Restaurant at 34725 Euclid Ave. for a fight inside the restaurant, according to a news release from police. Officers responded and learned that several individuals involved in the fight were fleeing the scene in a car.

One officer located the car traveling west on Euclid Avenue. The officer conducted a traffic stop without incident and learned that one of the passengers, identified as David Jackson from Cleveland, was directly involved in the fight.

Police said the fight initially began as a verbal altercation between two women inside the restaurant. As the altercation turned physical, Jackson jumped in the middle and punched a 20-year-old woman in the face, knocking her to the ground. He continued to punch the woman, then stomped on her head and kicked her body.

Jackson then stole the woman’s cell phone and shoes and fled the scene with several accomplices, the release states.

The victim suffered minor injuries in the attack, but declined medical treatment at the scene, police said.

Jackson was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and assault. At his initial appearance in Willoughby Municipal Court Monday, he was given a $100,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 14 at 1 p.m.
