Painesville police say the owner of a dog found dead in a trash compactor Tuesday later admitted to killing the pet by throwing it out his apartment window.
Police were called to the Washington Square Apartments on East Washington Street around 8 a.m. for a report of an animal found dead.
When officers arrived they found the dead dog in the apartment's trash compactor.
Police said they were able to track down the owner of the dog, who later confessed that he killed the dog by throwing it out his sixth floor apartment window.
The dog's owner, a 23-year-old man, was arrested and taken to the Lake County Jail where he is being held on a $500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on animal cruelty charges. The identity of the man has not been released.
The Lake County Humane Society also responded and took custody of the man's remaining pets.
