Willoughby Police arrested a man they said was driving drunk under suspension with oxycontin, ecstasy and a gun with him.
Shane Collins, 24, was arrested Jan. 23. Police said he was driving more than twice the speed limit on state Route 283 and that he tried to elude the officer tailing him by taking side streets.
The officer initiated a stop and Collins pulled into a driveway on Cherokee Trail. He immediately got out of his car and started walking toward the cruiser, police said. The officer ordered him to stop and Collins refused to provide his driver's license, claiming that he "was in a private sector and that the officer had no right to stop him," police reported.
The officer said that, after arguing, Collins went to his glove box to get his license and the handle of a gun poked out. The officer handcuffed Collins and searched his car, where he found a loaded gun and marijuana smoking pipes, he said.
While Collins was being taken to the police department in the back of the cruiser, officers said Collins was caught trying to hide Oxycontin, ecstasy and roxicet tablets.
Collins is being held on a $10,000 bond.
