WICKLIFFE, Ohio — A man has been charged after police found a loaded handgun in a backpack next to a toddler during a traffic stop in Wickliffe.

According to the Wickliffe Police Department, the traffic stop happened Thursday just before midnight.

Police said the driver of the car was a 25-year-old woman with a suspended license.

The passenger, a 29-year-old man, was charged with improper transportation of a firearm in a vehicle, being a felon in possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana.

Police said that during a search of the vehicle they found marijuana, cocaine, a digital scale, and a backpack with a gun inside. A 1-year-old child was sitting next to the backpack.

The handgun had previously been reported stolen out of Cleveland, authorities said.

The child was released to the driver, who was let go with multiple citations. The man was arrested and transported to the Wickliffe Jail.
