40-year-old man dies following motorized bicycle crash in Lorain

LORAIN, Ohio — A 40-year-old man was killed in a motorized bicycle crash that occurred in Lorain Tuesday afternoon, according to the Lorain Police Department.

Around 1:07 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Fulton Road and East 28th Street for a serious crash involving a bicycle.

During the initial investigation, officers learned that a motorized Huffy mountain bike equipped with a 50cc engine was traveling north on Fulton Road approaching the intersection when the bicyclist lost control of the bike during a left turn, ran off the side of the road and collided with a utility pole, police said.

The bicyclist, identified as Michael Macmahan, 40, of Lorain, was ejected from the bike, struck the utility pole and came to rest on the sidewalk, police said.

Macmahan was life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center where he died from his injuries while undergoing treatment, according to police.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
