An Avon police officer was arrested over Labor Day weekend on an OVI charge.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Sgt. George Ruple was arrested at 2:17 a.m. Monday after driving left of center.

He was taken into custody on Kinzel Road in Avon.

Avon police chief Richard Bosley sent this statement to newsnet5.com regarding the arrest:

We are aware of the arrest for OVI over the weekend of one of our Officers.  At this time the officer has not been placed on administrative leave and until there is a disposition in the case the officer’s status with our department will be dependent upon the officer’s ability to drive.  While we expect more from the employees in our department we respect the criminal justice process so until there is a decision by the court, no discipline will be considered or issued.
