ELYRIA — An Elyria High School student is facing a slew of charges after allegedly attacking a resource officer who tried to make her leave school property after the school day ended, according to an Elyria police report.

The 18-year-old student has been charged with criminal trespass, disorderly conduct persisting, resisting arrest, and assault, the report states.

The incident happened Monday just before 3 p.m.

According to authorities, the school’s resource officer was standing in the lunchroom monitoring the afternoon dismissal. A group of individuals, including the student, was asked to leave by the resource officer.

The officer approached the students and asked them to exit the building, the report stated. About 10 female students gradually left the building, but the girl stayed behind and told the officer she wasn’t going anywhere, the report states. She became belligerent and yelled profanity at the officer when he called her a “moron” and asked her to leave. The officer then told her to go or she would be arrested.

The report states that the student, who was standing in the vestibule at the time, re-entered the lunch room, ignoring the commands to leave.

The officer, under the assumption the student was a minor, told the her she needed to go to the main office for a citation, the report stated. The student attempted to walk by, but the officer grabbed her wrist and tried to handcuff her. The student started flailing her arms and screaming in an attempt to break free, and the officer tried to force her face down onto a lunch table to handcuff her. When the attempt failed, the officer put the student in a bear hug and walked her to a wall to secure the handcuffs.

The student resisted and sat down on the floor. The report called the student "completely out of control."

The report states that two school employees showed up to help assist the officer, but the girl lashed out with her leg and struck the officer in the groin, and again in the lower leg. The officer was eventually able to handcuff the girl after rolling her onto her stomach with the help of the two school employees.

During the walk back to the school office, the report says the student started screaming and jumping around trying to escape. She was eventually placed in a police cruiser and taken to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office after police learned she was 18 years old.

The Elyria School District suspended the student. She is facing possible expulsion from the school, according to the police report.
