Mom charged with leaving kids, 2 & 4, alone

Posted

An Elyria mother has been charged with child endangerment after police said that she left her daughters, ages 2 and 4, home alone Wednesday.

Police were called to Garford Avenue at around 3 p.m. Wednesday because a man had reported that he spotted a young girl outside with no winter coat.

Police said that it was 22 degrees outside.

After police arrived, the girl identified herself and told them that she was four years old. She said her mother was at school and police asked her if anyone else was home. She told them her sister was.

Police knocked on the door of the home and no one answered, so they went inside and found the 2-year-old sister sleeping.

Police waited at the home until the mother, Tina Carroll, returned at 3:36 p.m. She told police that she hadn't wanted to interrupt her 2-year-old's nap and didn't think it was a problem.

Carroll is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 27.
