An inmate has turned himself in after he escaped from a low-level security facility in Lorain County Tuesday.
Gregory Lee Tillman, 29, escaped from the Lorain/Medina Community-Based Correctional Facility just after 9 p.m. He turned himself into the sheriff's headquarters Wednesday afternoon, the department reported.
He has been charged with escape.
Employees of the jail reported that Tillman barricaded himself in his room, using a padlock to shatter the glass window that looks out toward Murray Ridge School.
Tillman then pushed the glass out of the frame, climbed out of his room and exited the building. He fled on foot in the northeast direction.
A K9 with the Lorain County Sheriff's Office tracked the suspect to the parking lot of Murray Ridge School but then lost its scent.
The Lorain/Medina Community-Based Correctional Facility houses about 60 male and 20 female felony offenders who are considered low-risk.
Tillman was serving time in the facility for a drug-related conviction.
This is the second inmate escape from this facility since September, when William Donofrio climbed a fence during scheduled recreation time.
