AVON, Ohio — Maria’s Sunflower Field of Hope in Avon, which has been an anchor of inspiration for childhood cancer survivors and their families, will have one more year to blossom bright, yellow sunflowers for all to see.
Prayers from Maria Children’s Glioma Cancer Foundation, the nonprofit who created the sunflower field, confirmed in a Facebook post that the Jacob's Group is allowing the popular Avon field to have one more year to blossom, raising awareness about childhood cancer.
The Avon field started by the McNamara family who lost their 7-year-old daughter Maria after she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive tumor called diffused intrinsic pontine glioma.
Last year, the foundation announced a new location for Maria’s Field of Hope sunflower field, located next to Cedar Point’s Express Hotel, 1201 Cedar Drive. The field of hope will also be at Sandusky again this year.
The public can donate to the organization and childhood brain cancer research here.
