ELYRIA, Ohio — Elyria police detectives have apprehended a suspect accused of the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man in a parking lot on Middle Avenue last year.

Marques Mason, 26, was arrested Monday following an indictment by a Lorain County Grand Jury. He has been charged with murder, attempted murder, felonious assault, improperly discharging firearms and tampering with evidence, according to authorities.

The shooting happened on June 12, 2018 in the parking lot of Midview Crossing Apartments, authorities said.

Officers found the victim, later identified as Antonio Stewart Jr., lying on the ground unresponsive and bleeding from the back of the head.

Stewart was transported to a nearby hospital and then flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries in September 2018, authorities said.

Mason is currently being held in the Lorain County Jail. An initial court appearance hasn't been listed yet on Mason's docket.
