ELYRIA, Ohio — Three people were left injured after a shooting in Elyria early Friday morning, according to the Elyria Police Department.

Officers were called to the area near Infirmary Road and West River Road around 12:22 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.

While on the way to the scene police received another report that victims of the shooting had transported themselves to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, according to authorities.

Officers located a vehicle outside of the emergency room and discovered four people exiting the vehicle in distress and a fourth person in the back seat of the vehicle covered in blood, police said.

The victims told police they were traveling together in the vehicle and stopped in a driveway in the 1000 block of Barbara Street.

As the vehicle began to pull out of the driveway, a dark colored vehicle pulled up and stopped in the road behind the victim’s vehicle, according to police.

The occupant(s) of the dark vehicle then fired multiple rounds at the victim’s vehicle.

The victims were able to back out of the driveway and flee, but the dark vehicle followed them and continued firing shots at them, police said.

The victim who was driving was injured but able to drive himself and his passengers to the hospital for treatment, according to authorities.

After speaking with medical personnel officers determined that three of the people suffered multiple gunshot wounds, none of which appeared to be life-threatening. The fourth occupant of the vehicle was not injured, police said.

This incident is currently under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time, according to police.
