BRUNSWICK HILLS, Ohio — A home in Brunswick Hills burned down to its studs while the homeowners were on vacation.
"We're all in tears, I never thought something like this would be so hard to watch," said neighbor Clarence Spradling.
Neighbors rushed over to help after calling 9-1-1.
"Just in shock, you just don't know what to do. You're at a loss, you're scrambling, you're thinking what do we do," said neighbor Donna Spradling.
Both of their dogs were killed in the flames. Firefighters say it was a challenge to get the fire out because of the home's location.
"The set back from the road way of 700 feet and the distance from the neighbors definitely played a factor in us being alerted to the fire," said Brunswick Hills Fire Chief Anthony Strazzo.
Now, there's nothing left, but the Brunswick Hills fire and police departments are stepping up to help the family start over.
"It's heartwarming that we are one big family whether you work here, live here, or live in a neighboring community," Chief Strazzo said. "America is a great place and we all lift each other up in our times of need."
They're collecting clothes, shoes and gift cards for the husband and wife, and their one and three-year-old boys.
"Their house, their cars, who knows what was in the house as far as birth certificates pictures, cribs, food," Spradling said. "Anything you can do to help these people."
Brunswick Hills Fire and Police are collecting these items for the family:
One adult male who works outdoors a lot in need of fall items, winter items and waterproof items:
- Pants: Waist: 36, Inseam: 32
- Shirts: Extra large
- Shoes: Size 12
One adult female in need of business casual clothing:
- Pants: Size 10
- Shirts: Medium or Large
- Shoes: Size 9
Three-year-old boy:
- Clothing : 3T-4T
- Shoes: Size 9-10 (children size)
One-year-old boy:
- Clothing: 2T
- Shoes: Size 5 (children)
- Diapers: Size 5 or 6
