BRUNSWICK, Ohio — Although she hadn’t been born yet when it happened, a Brunswick teen still wanted to pay tribute to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and did so in a touching way.

Alex Telatko is 14-years-old. She wasn’t born when the tragedy occurred, but Alex wanted to pay tribute to first responders who lost their lives while rescuing victims 19 years ago Friday.

Through a foundation called Tunnel to Towers, Alex ran 7.2 miles in 45 pounds of firefighter gear, raising money that will go towards building smart homes for wounded veterans and paying off mortgages of families of first responders who have died in the line of duty.

Alex has been working with the foundation since she was 5 years old and draws support from her family, friends and community, who all supported her on her run Friday.

News 5 photojournalist Dave Colabine followed Alex’s incredible run. You can watch the story in the player above.
