BRIMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Brimfield Township police are investigating a fatal crash.

The crash happened at 2 p.m. on Tallmadge Road near Sandy Lake Road.

A 2017 Hyundai Tucson was headed southbound on Sandy Lake Road when a 2008 Smart Car driven by Richard Tenan was headed eastbound on Tallmadge Road.

Authorities said the Hyundai failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the passenger side of the smart car.

The smart car overturned and partially ejected Tenan.

Tenan and his passenger were transported to the hospital in serious condition. He died from his injuries after arriving at the hospital.

Neither was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver and two juvenile passengers of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries. All three were wearing seat belts.

“It is so disheartening that despite reminders, warnings, and educational efforts, we are once again announcing the tragic death of someone who failed to properly wear a safety belt,” said Lt. Greene, Post Commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Ravenna Post. “I am asking the public to help us with any ideas or suggestions to help prevent further, senseless loss of life.”
