RAVENNA, Ohio — A Cleveland woman was killed in a crash that occurred in Ravenna Saturday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Around 2:34 p.m., a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling west on State Route 5 while a 2001 Nissan Maxima was traveling east. The Maxima traveled left of center, causing the driver of the Cobalt to take evasive action, troopers said.

The driver of the Maxima corrected and then swerved back into the eastbound lane as the Cobalt was also swerving and both vehicles struck head on, according to troopers.

A 22-year-old passenger in the Cobalt, later identified as Essence Shaw, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

The 29-year-old driver of the Cobalt sustained serious injuries from the crash and was transported by Lifeflight to University Hospitals Cleveland for treatment, according to troopers.

The 25-year-old driver of the Maxima also sustained serious injuries and was taken to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center for treatment, troopers said.

Alcohol and/or drug impairment is unknown at this time and remains under investigation, as does the crash.
