RAVENNA, Ohio — Happy Trail Farm Animal Sanctuary announced Sunday that it was at capacity for potbelly pigs and needed to find them loving homes. Just a day later, the animal rescue announced it had received “quite a few” applications and is optimistic it will find homes for all of the pigs.
In total, 17 pigs are being cared for at Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary.
According to the rescue, pigs are surrendered for several reasons, but one of the most common is that they get larger than anticipated and are prohibited in communities due to zoning rules.
“There is no such thing as a teacup pig. They are called ‘minipigs’ but still get from 50-60 pounds to 400 pounds,” the rescue said.
Because the cost to spay a pig can range up to $400, Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary is accepting donations on their website.
Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary is located at 5623 New Milford Road in Ravenna.
