MANTUA, Ohio — A bear was recently caught on a security camera at a home in Mantua in Portage County.
The bear can be seen moving in a bear-like fashion around the driveway of the Mantua home.
Watch raw video of the bear provided by the resident:
Jamey Emmert with the Ohio Division of Wildlife said most of the bears we see in Northeast Ohio right now are young black bears from Pennsylvania or West Virginia looking for an area with fewer bears to establish their own territory.
"They're very passive animals by nature,” Emmert said. “They're not aggressive animals, typically speaking, especially when given their space. They are a wild animal."
Emmert said black bears normally tend to flee if they feel fear.
If you want to keep them out of your yard, take away temptations like bird feeders and outside pet food, keep your grills clean, store your garbage in secure containers, and pick any crops as soon as possible, according to recommendations from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
