The Portage County Sheriff's Office is investigating drugs possibly being smuggled into the jail.

On Sunday morning, medical personnel were notified of an individual who had possibly overdosed.

A male inmate was transported to University Hospital.

Around noon, a nurse who helped treat the inmate became ill from possibly being exposed to Fentanyl.

The nurse was in the medical facility and found on the floor.

The nurse was administered Narcan before being transported to University Hospital.

The inmate was treated at the hospital and returned to the jail. The nurse was admitted to UH for further observation.

Investigators have begun an investigation into the incident.

During the investigation, officers and jail personnel emptied, searched and decontaminated four pods in the jail, as well as the medical unit.

In two separate cells of the maximum security ward, a small amount of substance was recovered that tested positive for Fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Once the investigation is complete, the Prosecutor's Office may press charges.
