A fire at Mogadore High School destroyed the school's field house Saturday afternoon and jeopardized student athletic equipment.

Fire officials said a truck took down a wire. They believe the wire touched off a fire at the building. Insurance investigators were at the building on Monday to go through and determine what was lost.

No students or coaches were inside or near the building at the time of the accident, according to a statement from the school. Student athletic equipment and related items were being stored inside and have been moved to another facility for review by a fire restoration company.

The fire is currently under investigation and the cause is unknown at this time.

The field house holds a lot of memories for the Magadore community, as several residents, employees, booster club members, patrons and friends of the school donated their time in 1972 and 1989 to construct the building and its addition. The school said it has already received numerous calls, messages and texts regarding fundraising to help recover what was lost.

Administrative staff and the Board of Education plan to meet to review what happened and to come up with a plan moving forward. Once they assess the damage, school officials will let those who want to help know how they can be of assistance.
