One person is dead after a fire in Streetsboro Monday.

Around 12:41 p.m., firefighters were called to 9035 Red Hawk Dr. for a structure fire. The area was located in the Lakeside Terrace Manufactured Home Park.

The fire department said when they arrived, crews were met with heavy smoke and fire on the south side of the home near the front door. Smoke was also pouring out of the north side of the home. Relatives at the scene told officials there was still an elderly man inside.

Fire crews said there was smoke from ceiling to floor in the home with no visibility. Once the majority of the fire was out, crews found the elderly man dead within 5 feet of the front door.

The Portage County Coroner's Office said it was also called to the scene.

Streetsboro Fire confirmed on Twitter that one person died from the fire.

The victim's wife was taken to Akron City Hospital for smoke inhalation treatment and thermal injuries. Two other relatives were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and thermal injuries they sustained when they tried to rescue the man from the fire.

Fire officials said after gathering information and interviews about the incident, investigators determined the fire was an accident and was caused by smoking materials that were dropped on a chair cushion where the elderly man would sit.

Officials said the damages to the home were expected to exceed $100,000. One of the neighboring homes also suffered some exterior heat damage.
