MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after a 12-year-old child riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a vehicle on State Route 61 in Mansfield.
The crash happened at about 11 a.m. on Sunday on State Route 61.
Troopers said the bicyclist, a 12-year-old child from Shelby, was heading westbound on Dininger Road when the child failed to stop for a stop sign and was struck by a 2013 Jeep heading southbound on 61.
The 12-year-old child was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was identified as a 61-year-old woman from Willard, Ohio.
Troopers said in a news release the child was not wearing any protective gear or a helmet at the time of the crash.
Alcohol and drug use do not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
