WELLER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 14-year-old riding a bicycle was injured Thanksgiving afternoon when the teen crossed in front of traffic and was hit by a car.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:40 p.m. on SR-96 in Weller Township in Richland County.

Authorities said the teen was heading west in the eastbound lanes when they went left of center and into the westbound lane to turn off the road. The teen was then struck by a 2001 Buick Park Avenue.

The teen was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, OSHP stated.

The Buick's driver, as well as the other occupants in the car, were not injured, authorities said.

The matter remains under investigation.
