MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Mansfield Police Department is investigating after two people died in an ATV crash on U.S. Route 30 in Mansfield, according to a news release from police.

On Monday, police responded to a crash at around 4:47 p.m. on State Route 30 westbound between 5th Avenue and State Route 545.

Preliminary information reveals two males were traveling eastbound in a grass field area of 781 5th Avenue, which is above U.S. 30, when the Polaris Ranger 4x4 went off the edge of a cliff and fell approximately 39 feet before landing in a ditch near the right lane of U.S. 30 westbound.

After landing in the ditch, the ATV rolled over and came to a rest on its top in the right westbound lane of U.S. 30.

Police said one person was found in the ditch and the other occupant was found underneath the ATV, partially ejected.

Both males were pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the two crash victims are not being released at this time.

The Richland County Coroner's Office is having trouble locating any next-of-kin for both victims, the release states.

All traffic was rerouted on Route 30 onto 5th Avenue as the crash was being investigated.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Detective Richard Clapp at 419-755-9470.
