39 charged for trafficking heroin after major drug sweep in Richland County

MANSFIELD, Ohio - A two-year investigation ended Wednesday in Richland County with one of the biggest drug busts in Mansfield's history.

According to authorities, heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine were being pumped into the streets by two different drug trafficking organizations.

Thirty-nine people were charged in the bust.

During the sweep, police found money, guns and drugs.

Authorities also say children were at several of the homes involved. Police said a 9-year-old girl opened the door for SWAT at one house.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 25 of 39 individuals had been taken into custody.

Officials said the large-scale drug trafficking network had ties to multiple states, with drugs being brought in from California and Chicago and Columbus.

The arrests were made across multiple cities, counties and states, police said.
