A man attempted to toss a gun and other contraband into a Richland County prison yard, according to the Highway Patrol.

Jawaun Scruggs, 22, of Akron, was arrested by troopers after staff at the Richland Correctional Institution said they spotted a man trying to toss a package to prisoners on Sunday.
In a field adjacent to the fence, Highway Patrol found the package containing a 22-caliber semi-automatic weapon, two bullets, eight cell phones and two pouches of tobacco.
Scruggs appeared in court on Tuesday for charges of illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon and criminal trespassing.
His bond was set at $25,000.

An Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction spokesperson said the incident is currently under investigation.
