MANSFIELD, Ohio — A vehicle suspected to be involved in a burglary in Mansfield Friday afternoon was involved in a two-vehicle crash several minutes after fleeing the scene of the burglary, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office and the Mansfield Police Department.

Around 12:45 p.m., deputies were called to a home in the 3000 block of Hastings-Newville Road for a burglary in progress. A caller told authorities that a man was spotted carrying a TV from the home, entering a black 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and fleeing the scene, deputies said.

Soon after, a deputy observed the Pontiac on Washington Road at Sandy Lane. When the deputy turned around to stop the car, it fled at a high rate of speed.

About 15 minutes after receiving the initial call, the Pontiac was spotted turning onto Davidson Street from Mansfield Lucas Road and driving off the right side of the roadway, deputies said.

The Pontiac then crashed into a 2003 Ford Focus, according to deputies.

Occupants of both the Ford and Pontiac were transported to a nearby hospital, authorities said.

After searching the Pontiac, deputies found four stolen guns, a TV and an iPad that had all been taken from the home on Hastings-Newville Road, according to authorities.

The accident and burglary are under investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Lt. Robert Skropits at 419-755-9755.
