A 5-year-old child was hospitalized after being bitten in the face by a pit bull Friday night.
Massillon police were dispatched around 8:25 p.m. to a home on Rhode Island Avenue after reports that a 5-year-old child was bitten by a pit bull.
News 5 originally reported that the dog did not belong to the family, according to police, but later learned it was a family pet.
The boy was transported to Affinity Medical Center and his condition is unknown at this time.
Police say the dog is still on the loose and are currently searching the area of 25th Street SE at Rhode Island Avenue SE.
