WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 58-year-old man from Canton was killed after his vehicle went off the road and struck an embankment off of US Route 62 in Stark County at around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Johnnie E. Owens, 58, of Canton, was traveling westbound on US Route 62 near mile marker 34 in his 2009 Cadillac DTS when he drove off the right side of the roadway into the grass and then back onto the road.
He lost control again and traveled off the right side of the roadway before he hit an embankment, causing his vehicle to overturn.
Owens was ejected from the vehicle when it flipped over. He was transported from the scene to Mercy Hospital by Nimishillen Township EMS. He was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
