CANTON, Ohio — This year like many other events., the Red Cross' annual Festival of Trees fundraiser to help families with disaster relief is going virtual because of COVID safety guidelines.

The online auction will include about 80 items, including eight decorated Christmas trees, 17 wreaths and even a cruise for two.

“it's unfortunate that it has to be virtual, but it has to be,” said Kim Kroh, Executive Director of Heartland- Stark and Muskingum Lakes Red Cross chapter. “The community has been unbelievably generous.”

Kroh says the event is vital to northern Ohio, especially communities in Wayne, Holmes and Ashland counties.

“This month we responded to numerous fires throughout that area,” Kroh explained. “We had 17 adults, 18 adults and seven children [that] we helped and we provided nearly five thousand in assistance. So that's just the month of November. So, we've been really busy.”

The auction will start Thanksgiving Day. Bidding will end on Dec. 1 at 8 p.m.
