A Hartville teen has died after falling off an ATV on Friday in Canton, according to authorities.

On July 6, deputies from the Stark County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash in the 11000 block of El Dorado Circle NE around 7:51 p.m.

Hartville, a village located in Stark County, is halfway between Akron and Canton.

Kyle Eric Donaldson, 17, of Hartville, was a passenger on a Can-Am ATV when he fell off, striking his head on the roadway, according to authorities.

Authorities said he was not wearing a helmet when he crashed. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center with life-threatening injuries by the Hartville Fire Department. Donaldson was life-flighted to Akron Children's Hospital where he died from his injuries on Saturday.

Donaldson was a cadet with the Marlboro Fire Department and was going to go through the EMT program during his senior year of high school.

Following the news of his death, the Marlboro Fire Department posted the following statement on their Facebook page:

Everyone here at the Marlboro Fire company and the community is heartbroken by the loss of one of our own. Kyle was an outstanding young man that honestly loved every one of us here and will be deeply missed. We will honor Kyle and the commitment he has given to our community very soon. Please continue to keep the Donaldson family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this very difficult time. Chief Matt Anstine

A 30-year-old driver from Hartville was cited for operating an ATV on the roadway.

The crash remains under investigation by the Stark County Sheriff's Office.
