NORTH LAWRENCE, Ohio — A man was arrested following a domestic dispute and standoff with authorities in North Lawrence Friday morning, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 8:49 a.m., deputies responded to the 2700 block of Ben Fulton Avenue regarding a report of a hostage situation during a domestic violence incident.

Once on scene, deputies learned that a 40-year-old man broke into the home and was holding his wife hostage at gunpoint, barricading the two inside of a room in the home, deputies said.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office was able to peacefully negotiate with the man to safely recover his wife and after a lengthy negotiation with the Canton Metro SWAT team, the man later surrendered, according to deputies.

The man was arrested and booked into the Stark County Jail on one count each of aggravated burglary, kidnapping, felonious assault, domestic violence and weapons under disability.
