LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Lexington Township early Friday morning during a police pursuit.
Around 12:51 a.m., deputies were called to U.S. Route 62 eastbound near Union Avenue for report of a crash.
The 45-year-old driver of a 1998 Buick LeSabre attempted to flee after the Alliance police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, deputies said.
The driver hit a high rate of speed as he fled police and lost control of the vehicle, driving off the roadway and striking a tree, according to deputies.
Deputies said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation .
