Trooper recovering after patrol car struck during traffic stop

STARK COUNTY, Ohio — An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper is recovering after his patrol car was struck during a traffic stop.

The crash happened before 3:15 a.m. on U.S. Route 62 near mile marker 25.

Trooper M.K. Poremba was conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of St. Elmo Avenue, when the rear of his patrol car was struck.

A 51-year-old man was driving a 2012 Dodge Caravan westbound on U.S. Route 62, when he struck Trooper M.K. Poremba's patrol car.

Poremba was conducting a traffic stop at the time of the crash.

After his patrol car was struck, his car was pushed forward and hit the rear of the vehicle he had stopped.

The driver of the car that was struck during the traffic stop was not injured.

Poremba was transported to Aultman Hospital and later released.

The man that struck Poremba's patrol car was not injured during the crash.

He was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
