Canal Fulton police were in hot pursuit for about a half hour on Wednesday night of a 61-year-old woman.
Police were called to a Minute Mart in response to a suspicious woman at 9:15 p.m. The woman began making several bizarre remarks and claimed to be a government agent, according to police. When Ptl. Dennis Muntean arrived, the woman was already in her car.
According to reports, when approached by the officer, the woman stepped on the gas and drove towards the officer, forcing him to dodge her vehicle. She stopped her vehicle and stared at officer Muntean before driving away.
Ptl. Muntean jumped into his patrol car and gave chase, traveling east. When the pursuit entered Jackson Township, officers deployed stop sticks, giving the woman a flat tire. According to the report, the woman continued driving into North Canton, eventually turning southbound.
Police claim the pursuit maintained speeds around 50 miles per hour, never topping 60 miles per hour. When the woman attempted a u-turn at a Fulton Street gas station she was boxed in by several police vehicles. She was uncooperative with the officer's verbal orders and had to be physically removed from her vehicle.
The woman made a series of absurd remarks, the report states. She claimed the officers were not real and offered the police a "nightmare sandwich." She said she was the Head of National Security, among other things.
The police have said they believe the woman was not in her right mind and needed to be temporarily removed from society. The report states that the woman has been charged with a felony offense of fleeing and eluding, along with accompanying traffic charges. Police booked her in the Stark County Jail without incident.
