GREEN, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office arrested two people who were accused of stealing money from a retirement facility.

On Dec. 5 at midnight, a resident at a retirement facility in Green called deputies after being awakened by a loud noise in the laundry room.

Deputies arrested Roy Newell, 34, as he was fleeing the complex through a fire door.

Newell had entered the complex and was in the process of forcing open the cash machine when he was interrupted and attempted to flee, according to deputies.

Deputies said Newell had a large amount of cash, a drill and other tools on him.

Authorities also arrested Jessica Smith, 27, in a nearby vehicle.

Deputies said Newell and Smith went to the facility to break into the cash machine.

Newell has broken into machines at three separate locations within Green, deputies said. Each time he entered a housing complex and broke into the cash machine.
