SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Springfield Township police arrested a 27-year-old man in connection to a string of thefts at ATMs in Springfield Township and the city of Akron.

Police arrested Zachery Dupert, of Akron, for theft, eluding police and resisting arrest.

Dupert approached multiple female victims as they were withdrawing money from ATMs, grabbing the money from them and fleeing the scene, police said.

A Springfield Township officer observed Dupert watching an ATM on Saturday and attempted to stop him in his vehicle. After a short pursuit, Dupert crashed into a telephone pole at Congo Street and Darrow Road in Akron, according to police.

Dupert attempted to flee on foot after the crash but was captured by police. He was treated for injury and booked into the Summit County Jail.
