CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — The Cuyahoga Falls Police Department is investigating after an armed intruder was fatally shot during a home invasion early Saturday morning.
It happened just before 6 a.m. in the 2200 block of Richmond Road.
The resident called police and said an armed person broke into their home and he shot them, authorities said.
According to police, when officers arrived, they found a 41-year-old man with a gunshot wound. The man, later identified by the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office as Demetrius Dierre Horton, of Akron, was later pronounced dead.
Officers determined Horton entered through an unlocked kitchen window and was found with a pistol.
Police believed Horton targeted this specific residence and there is no further threat to the general public.
Cuyahoga Falls police and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the incident as a homicide.
