A man who led police on an 80 mph chase is in custody, according to an Akron police spokesperson.
The chase started in the city of Stow shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 when authorities attempted to pull over a stolen Chevrolet Express van traveling on Route 8 near Graham Road.
When police attempted to stop the vehicle the driver took off.
Akron police later spotted the vehicle but the driver refused to stop as he traveled through residential streets at high speeds.
When the suspect started running red lights, police said they called the chase off but they were able to locate the the driver and the stolen vehicle on the 400 block of Mathews Street in Akron.
Police said charges are pending. The identity of the driver has not been released at this time.
