The man who police say brutally beat his 78-year-old mother to death in Akron on Thursday night has been arrested.
Derrick Williams was taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. Police say he was apprehended at the Hartford Avenue home where his mother was found dead.

Police issued a warrant for the 47-year-old man earlier this week charging him with murder. The woman was found by her daughter with severe head trauma on the kitchen floor of her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and coroner's officials ruled her death a homicide.
