Akron man dies after driving into parked truck

Posted

A 55-year-old Akron man was killed Tuesday morning after he crashed into the back an unoccupied pickup truck, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The victim, Harry D. Cross Jr., was driving eastbound on Gilchrist Road in Springfield Township when he hit a parked 1999 Ford truck shortly after 7 a.m., troopers said.

The impact caused the Ford to be pushed into a box truck that was parked nearby.

Cross had to be extricated from his vehicle by emergency crews. He was transported to Akron City Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.  He was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.

This is the 30th fatal crash in Summit County in 2017.
