AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating two fatal crashes that happened Sunday night, according to a news release from the Akron Police Department.
The first crash happened at 7:45 p.m. when a 61-year-old driver from Cuyahoga Falls was traveling northbound in the 2300 block of Akron-Peninsula Road.
The driver drove off the right side of the road and hit a tree, according to the release. He was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police said alcohol and speed do appear to be a factor in the crash.
The second crash happened around 10:30 p.m. when a 52-year-old man from Middleburg Heights was traveling northbound on I-77 when he drove off the road and struck a tree.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Authorities said the crash may have been caused by a medical condition.
The names of both victims are being withheld pending positive identification and family notification.
