An Akron police sergeant is on paid administrative leave after he was accused of driving drunk.

An Ohio state trooper cited Sgt. Michael Lugenbeal, 55, for operating a vehicle under the influence. According to his ticket, Lugenbeal was driving northbound on George Washington Boulevard near Hilbish Avenue just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 3. The ticket said Lugenbeal was driving 47 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

A state trooper administered a breathalyzer test, which showed Lugenbeal had a blood alcohol content of .269, which is more than three times the legal limit.

Lugenbeal could not immediately be reached on Tuesday. His court date is Friday September 9 at 9 a.m. at Akron Municipal Court.

An Akron Police spokesman said Lugenbeal could face further disciplinary charges, pending the outcome of the court proceedings.
