Police trying to stamp out the cigarette bandit

Authorities are looking for a cigarette bandit who has ripped off multiple convenience stores all over Northeast Ohio.

The man's modus operandi has been consistent with each theft. According to police, the suspect asks for a pack of cigarettes and other items. Then, while the clerk rings up his purchases, he asks for something behind the counter. When the clerk turns to get the new item, the man grabs his loot and bolts out the door.

Stores in Macedonia, Fairlawn, Beachwood, Shaker Heights, Willoughby, Solon and Pepper Pike have all fallen prey to this sticky-fingered nuisance.

Anyone with information regarding the man's identity is asked to contact the Macedonia Police Department at 330-468-1234.
