One person has died in a three-car crash on Interstate Route 77 northbound near the Ridgewood/Miller Road exit Thursday morning, according to officials.

At around 6:14 a.m., 2018 Hyundai Elantra and a 2007 Nissan Altima stopped in the left lane of I-77 northbound from a previous crash when a Dodge Ram 1500 rear-ended the Nissan, which rear-ended the Hyundai, a representative with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old North Canton resident, was not injured.

The driver of the Nissan, Justin Pankow, 38, of Akron, was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Akron General Hospital where he died, according to the OSHP.

The driver of the Dodge, 19-year-old resident from Brimfield, was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to Akron General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, officials stated.

The use of alcohol does not appear to be a factor, according to the OSHP. The crash remains under investigation.
