A man was arrested after a marijuana grow operation was found in his home while firefighters battled a fire.

On Tuesday at 10:15 p.m., Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department responded to a fire at a residence in the 2300 block of Liberty Street.

While working on the fire, authorities said personnel noticed what appeared to be a marijuana grow operation in the home.

Cuyahoga Falls police and narcotics were called to the home to investigate. A search warrant was executed and 20 marijuana plants were seized as well as various indoor grow equipment.

Police said 44-year-old John R. Payne was arrested for the marijuana grow. He was charged with illegal cultivation of marijuana. Additional charges are pending.

Payne was booked in the Summit County Jail pending his arraignment in the Stow Municipal Court on Wednesday.
